Briefing by Ambassador Amayo on the status of US – Kenya trade and investment relations
The Members of the US Chamber of Commerce led by Scott Eisner, President of the the Chamber’s Africa Business Centre, were today briefed by Ambassador Amayo on the status of US-Kenya trade and investment relations including the ongoing bilateral Free trade agreement negotiations and the country’s objectives.
The audience , which included the CEO of AMCHAM-Kenya, Mr. Maxwell Okello and representatives of several US companies present in Kenya, were informed of the structures for bilateral engagement established following the elevation of the US-Kenya relations to strategic partnership; a key outcome of the US Kenya Summit of August 2018 and on the substance of the partnership, including the status of the bilateral FTA negotiations.
Mr. Scott Eisner led his Members in lauding the steps taken to solidify the bilateral trade and investment relations most notably the commencement of the bilateral FTA negotiations. Further, several issues of interest to specific members were highlighted during the interactive session.
The meeting was also apprised on the role the American Chamber of Commerce in Kenya has played in marshaling private sector input through the Kenya Private sector consortium on the US-Kenya FTA.
At this pivotal juncture of the bilateral relationship, the imperative for constant engagement between the Embassy and the US Chamber was acknowledged.
