Google commits US$10 million support to Kenya’s covid-19 recovery efforts
H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr. Sundar Pichai, C.E.O of Google and Alphabet on January 27, 2021 engaged in a successful fireside chat on “Digital Transformation to Drive Africa Growth”. The Dialogue was hosted by Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) under the leadership of its President and CEO, Ms.Florizelle Liser and moderated by Ms. Zain Verjee, Founder and CEO Zain Verjee Group.
The President and; the Google and Alphabet CEO committed to continue with the strong partnership that exists between the country and Google. The CEO announced US$10 million support to Kenya’s COVID-19 efforts recovery through targeting local non-profit organizations ($2m), small and medium enterprises ($3m) and Innovation Start-ups ($5m).
They emphasized the need to invest in technology so as to create jobs for the bulging youth population in Africa and the Google CEO noted the company has to date reached six (6) million youth in the continent with its digital skills program.
The President reiterated his commitment to continue improving ease of doing business and creating an enabling environment for SMEs and the Public Private Partnerships to thrive in Kenya.
Ms. Florizelle Liser expressed Corporate Council on Africa’s interest to continue working with Kenya to promote business and investments between the two countries.
