Meeting on upcoming Global Partnership for Education Financing Conference

On 11th February 2021, Amb. Lazarus Amayo held a virtual meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Partnership for Education, Ms. Alice Albright, over the upcoming financing conference to be co-hosted by H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson between 28th and 29th July 2021. The GPE’s Financing Conference targets to raise at least $5billion to support education systems resilience in its 76 partner countries.

During the meeting, Ms. Albright lauded Kenya’s education reforms saying it was timely in delivering quality and equitable education to citizens. She expressed appreciation towards the Kenyan Government for the efforts made in rallying support from the International Community for the upcoming financing conference. She indicated that the conference is likely to be virtual given the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.

On his part, Amb. Amayo expressed gratitude to GPE for choosing Kenya among the many partners to co-host the conference. He noted that GPE has been a dependable partner in supporting the country’s education development especially in promotion of Universal Primary Education, early grade mathematics competencies, sound school management system and gender equality and equity to quality education among others.

Amb. Amayo further informed that during the recent 34th African Union Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government, H.E. President Kenyatta welcomed the Members of the African Union to support and participate in the upcoming financing conference. He assured GPE CEO of Kenya’s support and commitment towards making the conference a success.
